Testing, Adjusting and Balancing a system is an efficient way to minimize operating costs and maximize efficiency. Doing so may also assist an engineer's design, while it is important to troubleshoot problem areas, we work directly with project engineers to find a solution to any problem. Providing these services will also ensure the comfort to building occupants and avoid such problems like hot or cold spots, drafts or noisy areas.
The relationship of air inside a building is the differential pressure. Since air acts like a fluid, it will flow from the positive area to the negative area or from a higher pressure to lower pressure. Regulating air balance, whether it’s comparing inside to outside or comparing one to another is extremely important. Indoor air quality (IAQ), occupant comfort, system efficiency, and correct air flow are greatly affected and enhanced by proper air balance.
In the past testing and balancing was the last stage in a long process of designing, fabricating and installing a commercial air conditioning system. While it was the designer responsibility to create a system based on heat load estimate calculations, it is the balancers job to get the air where it is supposed to go. It is not unusual for a building that was built in the early 70's to have a greater heat load now then was originally calculated due to the proliferation of computers, monitors and copy machines etc. This situation puts great demands on the HVAC system to perform at its maximum capacity, which can be costly if the system is not properly balanced.
The only way to document deficiencies in a system is to perform a rigorous inspection that encompasses all aspects of your system including the fan, water and pump, air distribution and control systems. Many commercial spaces require a certain number of air changes per hour as defined by city, state and federal regulations. We document the condition of your system to verify compliance or to bring to light a potential problem so that they may be addressed.
